University of Erlangen – Nuremberg (or Erlangen University, University of the Friedrich – Alexander in Erlangen and Nuremberg, German Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg.) – German University, founded in 1742 by Duke Friedrich of Brandenburg-Bayreuth.
This University is the second largest institution of higher education in Bavaria. The university is divided into faculties, 9 of which are located in Erlangen and 2 others – not far from Nuremberg.
Within its walls are educated 25,000 students and conduct their activities 8,000 professors, faculty and staff.
On the territory of the university, there are physical, pharmacological, and anatomical institutes, chemical laboratory, as well as the university library, located in a former palace of Markgräflerland.
Well-known graduates of the University of Erlangen – Nuremberg include Georg Ohm (physicist), Netёr Emmy (mathematician) and Ludwig Erhard (Chancellor of Germany in 1963-1966).
