Humboldt University of Berlin (German Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, abbr HU Berlin, Latin Alma Mater Berolinensis…) – The oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Berlin, founded in 1809 by Wilhelm von Humboldt.
Nowadays, there are trained about 35,000 students of which about 5000 foreigners.
The University is famous alumni, politicians, Gregor Gysi (Gregor Gysi) and Regina Hildebrand (Regine Hildebrandt), former Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Schütz (Klaus Schiitz), poet Wolf Biermann (Wolf Biermann), and others.
