The University of Canterbury is the second oldest university in New Zealand, founded in 1873, located in Christchurch, Canterbury region.

To date, more than 15,000 students receive higher education at the university.

In 2017/18, the University of Canterbury was ranked 214th among universities in the world and 3rd among universities in New Zealand in the QS World University Rankings. Positions in the ranking of faculties for 2015/2016 were: 146th in arts and humanities, 161st in engineering and information technology, 211st in natural sciences and 94th in social and management sciences.

Education is conducted in English; more than 150 programs are offered to students for their education.
