In 1969, the institution became Leicester Polytechnic College after several transformations. In 1992, after more than 120 years since its foundation, the institution gained university status and the new, widely known name De Montfort University became world famous for its programmes. The undergraduate course Contour Fashion is one of the most popular with international students around the world. Other creative specialities that are taught at the top level are also very popular. These include media, technology, fashion, product design and so on. For example, DMU's postgraduate diploma in journalism is approved by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ). Scientific Achievements:

This theme aims to develop digital innovations for the future, while keeping a close eye on social, ethical responsibility

The vision is to promote and develop transformative interdisciplinary research in health and wellbeing across the lifespan across the four faculties, utilising research expertise, regional, national and international collaboration
