UniS has established itself as one of the best research-intensive universities internationally. - In 2014, co-operation with King's College London and the University of Dresden on the 5G technology development project
- Space Centre: Since 1981, UniS has conducted research and launched 21 satellites, including one at the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. Here, electronic equipment for spacecraft is manufactured, custom-built artificial space satellites are built and the latest space technologies are developed.

UniS has several study areas. Two of them are located in Guildford, one and a half kilometres apart, Manor Park and Stag Hill. The campuses consist of large green spaces that include academic buildings, walking areas and sports infrastructure. The University occupies 120 hectares of land.

UniS has an arts centre with ten studios for music, dance, acting, visual arts and other creative areas. Students receive training, attend masterclasses and elective classes, and then hold large, localised events in assembly halls or outdoors.
